Our Goals

Proyecto Refugio volunteers are dedicated to supplying the needs of the less fortunate.

Our objective is to assist, attend to and comfort all those we can, partnering with businesses and private individuals who, instead of having pity and just feeling sorry, have allowed compassion to move them from intention to action for the benefit of others.

Our Story

Chris and Joan Seaman, founders of Proyecto Refugio, A.C., arrived in Mexico from Ecuador over fifteen years ago in 1995 where they were engaged in the rehabilitation of delinquent boys for 14 years. They were moved by the need of the poor in the district of El Salto, Guadalajara, Jalisco, and launched out to make a difference where possible. They began donating food and clothing biweekly out of a garage that was kindly lent them by a local family. From there the work grew and soon moved to a small house where, in addition to the distribution of these goods to needy families, they also included a Kindergarten for 40 street children, a service nonexistent at the time, though a necessary and required first step for the children to move on to primary school. These two projects gave birth to PROYECTO REFUGIO, A.C. , (PRAC) a NGO in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

To date, over 15 years later, Proyecto Refugio, A.C. is a registered non-profit community center that not only feeds more than two hundred children daily, but provides free medical care, a free medical dispensary for those too poor to afford treatment, provides food for over 200 families monthly; hosts family counseling sessions and gives adult education courses and job training to help build a better tomorrow.

Our volunteers work tirelessly to touch the lives of those who society has forgotten, donating goods, professional services, hosting courses and participating in the many events the center provides on special occasions.
